People ask a lot about my process - it’s not secret, just difficult to explain. And a little bit psychotic. Each piece is made with a unique process. Some are made from each other, some from several other pieces combined, and so on. I add and remove components as I go. I switch between multiple mediums and platforms, multiple times, and then back again. Layers upon layers. Some of the pieces contain over a dozen images, each of which has been already crafted by several images, and so on.
My process is much more intuitive than technical. Lights, angles, faces, places, feelings, and people are what drive the art. Mo matter what or where, I am always searching for new inspiration - shooting or planning or watching.
I tend to know exactly what I want before I start creating and it can take weeks or even months in the process to get there…
I am relentless.
I’m a photographer first. I make sure each photo can stand on its own before it moves forward. Most of the photos I begin with are street photography from my many years in New York, Paris, and Los Angeles. I shoot specifically for what I want to create, my creative mind already 1000 steps down the line.
When I delve into into the AI software the crazy comes in. I’m not a prompter in any sense. I use almost no words. As few as I can get away with. I try to confuse and contrast the learning software to yield different results. I have the vision in my mind, I know what I’m looking for when I’m capturing the photos and I’m using the software as an instrument in the same way. I will combine several edited photos to build the scene, adding specific details from different photos. It can take thousands of edits to get what I want. Finally, I digitally paint or draw details into the art, then print and hand paint and add elements.
Paintings on canvas, wood and other weird materials are in the works.
So is lots of other cool stuff.
